Magneto-Inductive HF RFID System

چکیده
Efforts to increase read range in passive HF RFID systems are hampered by the poor scaling law of inductive coupling. An alternative approach enlarging capture volume-increasing lateral extent antenna-is proposed, using a magneto-inductive (MI) travelling wave arrangement allow larger antenna sizes. A theory load modulation MI is first presented, together with field simulations volume. 2.3 metre-long then constructed, and an active tag emulator used demonstrate modulation. demonstrated, both reflection transmission modes, custom reader constructed from laboratory equipment. transverse 0.5 m obtained commercial off-the-shelf cards 10 W RF power, high uniformity along length antenna.

Magneto-inductive waveguide devices
Devices formed from magneto-inductive waveguides based on coupled loop resonators are considered using simple analytic theory, initially assuming lossless propagation and nearestneighbour coupling. Two-port devices that were considered include mirrors, Fabry–Perot resonators, Bragg gratings and tapers, while more general N-port devices include power splitters and directional couplers. Condition...
متن کاملLow-loss magneto-inductive waveguides
Radio-frequency experimental measurements of magnetically coupled chains of L-C resonators supporting magneto-inductive (MI) waves are presented. MI waveguides are constructed using printed circuit board (PCB) inductors and external capacitors. Methods for increasing the nearest-neighbour coupling and reducing the non-nearest neighbour coupling using double-sided PCBs are demonstrated. Conditio...
متن کاملThin-film magneto-inductive cables
Magneto-inductive cables for low (ca 100 MHz) radio frequencies are demonstrated in thin-film form. 20 cm long resonant elements are formed using double-sided patterning of copper-clad polyimide, based on single-turn inductors and parallel-plate capacitors that use the substrate as an interlayer dielectric. Continuous cables are formed by overlaying elements, in an arrangement that allows a hig...
متن کاملBends in magneto-inductive waveguides
Magneto-inductive (MI) waveguides are periodic structures that operate by magnetic coupling between a set of lumped-element L-C resonators. The effect of waveguide bending on the propagation of MI waves is investigated, and it is shown that discontinuities in axis curvature will typically generate reflections. Changes in the equivalent circuit parameters of two types of MI waveguides (formed fr...
متن کاملNoisy Carrier Modulation for HF RFID
Radio-frequency tokens are vulnerable to eavesdropping. Several schemes have been proposed that use additional devices to generate cover noise, or bit collisions, in order to protect communication between a reader and a token. I discuss the practical weaknesses in current bit-blocking schemes and propose an alternative implementation where the tokens modulate their reply onto a noisy carrier pr...
